At Eagle Junction State School we are very proud of our rich and vibrant music culture where students are provided with many musical opportunities through the classroom music, instrumental music and choral programs.
Choral Program
Eagle Junction's thriving choir community provides students with the opportunity to develop their singing and musical skills and perform with confidence in a stimulating, encouraging and fun environment.
Year 2 Choral Club
Any Year 2 student is welcome to join this inclusive choir, where the focus is on having fun and staying engaged through singing. Rehearsals run once a week at lunchtime and last about 30 minutes.
Year 3 Choir
Any Year 3 student is welcome to join this training choir, with an emphasis on building confidence and developing in-tune singing in a fun, supportive environment. Rehearsals are held once a week before school for approximately 30 minutes. The Year 3 Choir performs at P–3 assemblies, including Harmony Day and Endangered Species Day, as well as at the annual Music Soiree.
Senior Choir
Any student in Years 4, 5 and 6 is welcome to join this non-auditioned choir, where students explore a wide range of musical styles, develop choral skills such as unison and part-singing, vocal tone, musicianship and music literacy, and enjoy positive, rewarding rehearsal and performance experiences.
Rehearsals are held once a week before school for approximately one hour. The Senior Choir performs at Leaders Induction assemblies, the Anzac Day service and the annual Music Soiree, and also takes part in MRC enrichment programs including Singfest and Choral Fanfare
Vocal Ensemble
Vocal Ensemble is an extension singing opportunity for Senior Choir students in Years 5 and 6. This auditioned chamber choir provides students with the chance to further develop their vocal skills, musicianship, and ensemble performance experience. They engage in more challenging repertoire, learn advanced vocal techniques, and work on blending, harmony, and expressive interpretation.
The Vocal Ensemble performs regularly at school assemblies and the annual Music Soirée. In addition, they represent the school at choral competitions such as Queensland Youth Music Awards (QYMA) and Choral Fanfare.
Instrumental Music
An opportunity to participate in the Instrumental Music Program is offered to a limited number of students from Years 3 to 6. Students are chosen through a comprehensive selection process.
Eagle Junction's Instrumental Music Program currently provides tuition for approximately 115 students.
- String tuition commences in Year 3
- Woodwind, Brass and Percussion tuition commences in Year 4
To fill the limited number of positions, all students in Years 2 and 3 are assessed at the end of each year. After consultation with students' classroom and music teachers and careful consideration of a range of criteria, successful students are offered positions in the program. For further information, please refer to 'EJSS Selection Process for Instrumental Music'.
Students in the program also participate in an ensemble after the beginner stage:
- Senior String Ensemble (Years 4, 5 & 6)
- Junior Concert Band (Year 4, commencing in Semester 2)
- Senior Concert Band (Years 5 & 6)
These ensembles perform at the annual Music Soiree and regularly take part in a suite of enrichment programs including cluster camps, workshops and Fanfare.
