How we support students: The referral process

At Eagle Junction State School, we know that every student is unique - and sometimes, they may need a little extra support to thrive. That's why we have a clear Student Support Services (SSS) Referral Process in place.

Step 1: Teacher observes and supports

Your child's classroom teacher notices a challenge - it might be with learning, friendships, behaviour or wellbeing. They begin trialling support strategies in class and talk with the Inclusion Team if extra ideas are needed.

Step 2: Collaborating with families

If the teacher feels your child needs more help they'll chat with you the parents first. We value your insight and want to work in partnership.

Step 3: Referral to student support services

A referral is made to our school's Student Support Services (SSS) team who meet weekly to discuss how best to support students.

Step 4: Team planning

Together, the SSS team and your child's teacher discuss strategies and next steps. This could include classroom adjustments, small group work, or connecting with specialists. We will work with you and share the action plan created to support your  child.

Step 5: Follow-up

A case manager from our team will check in regularly and continue to review progress and update the plan if needed.

This process aligns with our multi-tiered support model, ensuring the right support is allocated to your child. We work collaboratively as a team to plan, monitor and review progress, so every student can thrive.

If you ever have concerns about your child's learning or wellbeing, we encourage you to speak with their classroom teacher first. They can work with you and our support team to explore the next steps together.
