Last Friday, our school community came together to commemorate the 111th anniversary of the landing of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps at Gallipoli in 1915. The ceremony was led with great respect by our student leaders and combined choirs.
We were honoured to welcome Mr Evan Parker from the Clayfield/Toombul RSL as our guest speaker. Mr Parker spoke about the contributions of local community members during times of war, reminding students that their sacrifice and commitment to a better future have shaped the freedoms and opportunities we enjoy today. He also highlighted the significance of our Memorial Gates, noting that each time we pass through them, we honour those who made great sacrifices for the life we now lead. Students were particularly interested to learn that our sporting houses are named after military bases where members of our armed forces train. His address was both engaging and impactful. Our Senior Choir opened the ceremony beautifully, performing the Australian and New Zealand national anthems, followed by I Am Australian and Brown Slouch Hat during the wreath laying. We were also fortunate to have Kedron State High School student Alistair Gilmore perform The Last Post and Reveille, adding to the solemnity of the occasion. Thank you to all who contributed floral tributes, which were respectfully presented by student representatives from Prep to Year 6.
A special thank you to our Tech Crew Captain for ensuring the sound and audiovisual elements ran seamlessly, and to our Student Council for coordinating ANZAC Day badge sales in the lead-up to the ceremony.
Following this, our School Captains, Vice Captains, Senior Leaders and Year 4–6 Student Councillors proudly represented our school at the community ANZAC Day service at the Kalinga Gates on Saturday 25 April. Thank you to the students and families who supported their participation.
