Late last month, around 40 of our Year 5 and 6 students stepped up for Round 1 of the Queensland Debating Union competition, proudly hosted here at EJ. Teams from across northern Brisbane joined us, and while there were some excited nerves beforehand, our debaters shone with collaboration, bravery and persistence; not to mention incredible sportsmanship.
A few days later, we held our first intra-school debate, with two Year 6 teams going head-to-head. With most students competing for the very first time, we were blown away by their poise, strong arguments and thoughtful rebuttals. What an amazing effort!
None of this would be possible without our dedicated volunteer coaches, a mix of staff and parents, who give their time and energy to guide and support our students. Thank you for everything you do!
We’re also proud to announce our 2025 Debating Captains, Alexa and Elouise! The girls have already shown outstanding leadership, welcoming visiting teams, calming Year 5 nerves, and assisting behind the scenes. Congratulations, Captains — we know you’ll lead with enthusiasm and commitment.
Good luck to all teams as they head into Round 2 this coming Thursday. We can’t wait to see you shine again!
